Sounds very disturbing about our ways of spending precious and scarce money. It is heartening to hear from Mr. Premji's concern about education and health concerns of under privileged. Is there is a big flaw in our planning commission in prioritizing our specific needs. Are we going in wrong direction as for as we selecting our priorities?
Let us be more practical. Today, we are facing heavy shortage in labour in every field. Be it industry, Agriculture or Infrastructure building etc. Any where you go, you are finding it very hard to get qualified labour. Most of the people are not suitable or they don’t have sufficient knowledge and skill required for that particular job. We have to compromise in each and every stage. Added to this it is all (IN most of cases) in unorganized state. They are very happy, if they are paid 200-300 per day and will spend most of it in drinking and other enjoyments. They are not worried about their improving living standards. They will become very irregular and their attendance is very poor. This suffers projects in achieving their targets.
Take for example NREGA. This is a very good scheme. Poor people in rural areas get wok and can take care of their families. But what is actually happening is they are not opting for Agriculture work , as they get about Rs 1500(Both husband and wife put together) for a weak and get ration at subsidized cost – rice @ 1/2/3 Rs a kg, or a package of rice, dal, wheat flour. Oil etc for just Rs 200. The quantity is sufficient for one month for a family of 4 for 2/3 packages. Then they won’t think of further working and spend their time in chitchatting on roads and discussing all issues right from their village politics up to US presidential issues. This results in heavy shortage of labour for agriculture. Our poor farmers are not capable of mechanizing the entire agricultural operations and our agriculture growth is dwindling. Our GDP naturally goes down or not upto the mark in spite of good Industrial growth.
In improving the living conditions of our farmers, the Govt is giving so many freebies like loan writing off. This is the single most wrong policy as for as I am viewing it. The intentions are to improve the living conditions. But actually, we are making our citizens always parasites and make them lazy. In this particular instance, a honest man who repays his loans promptly feels let down by the Govt and will never thinks of repaying his future loans expecting one more wavier. This will increase the burden on Govt. funds. Will definitely have a very big adverse effect on Agriculture production.
Instead of doing this, let the Govt give heavy patronage on Agriculture production. Let them give Rs 5000/MT of paddy produced by a farmer. This will enthuse all to produce. Give them all infrastructural needs like finance, marketing good roads, Very good technical inputs/advises, storage facilities water, interaction with successful farmers in the other part of developing/developed world. Seeing is more effective than just hearing. Think of joining rivers to avoid flooding and starving. These are all not easy jobs. They are monumentally big and difficult things, It is very much easier said than done. But a sincere beginning could be made. The important thing is one should have the will to do it. If that is not there, then nothing could be done.
